How do we select our projects?

Very carefully.

We are always seeking out great projects to support. Currently Cooler Skies Company will only purchase these types of clean energy projects:

• Clean energy projects only from renewable sources:
• Biomass, from waste wood, landfill gas, animal waste.
• Cogeneration biomass projects;
• Wind
• In the future, Tidal or Wave power.
  

Greenhouse gas abatement projects, such as methane capture from landfills;
Biomass energy, projects, including projects fueled with landfill gas or agricultural waste

Highly efficient cogeneration plants, but only if fueled by biomass fuels

At this time we do not finance offsets from Industrial efficiency projects, or from sequestration of carbon through tree planting or agricultural practices.

Don’t get us wrong, we wholly support tree-planting, and encourage everyone to support tree planting and energy efficiency.

Each of these projects is part of a balanced portfolio to reduce the equivalent of the carbon dioxide emitted from our customer's energy use. (For full details on how these projects reduce carbon dioxide pollution, please see Projects we support.)

When selecting projects, Cooler Skies Company looks for sound climate science, presence of a third-party verification system, ongoing monitoring, overall environmental performance, and the social and economic contribution of the facility to the surrounding community.

Our selection criteria and evaluation criteria is comprehensive and very technical and some portions are proprietary.
